Sold • Summerland Public School approved a purchase agreement for the Clearwater site with Educational Service Unit 8 during Monday's Summerland board meeting, in Ewing. In addition to the school site, ESU will take ownership of a .191 acre tract of land behind the building, which includes a garage.

The sale of the Summerland - Clearwater site has been finalized.

Principal Mike Sanne presented a purchase agreement , for $58,000, to the Summerland Board of Education, Monday, during the board's monthly meeting.

The agreement with Educational Service Unit 8 was finalized Jan. 20.

Per the agreement, the closing will be June 15.

The sale includes the current school site, along with a .191 acre of land, which includes a metal garage, adjacent to school property.

An easement across the north 20 feet of property will be granted to Roberta Patras, for access to their adjacent property.

Summerland School will have right of first refusal, if the ESU would sell any part of the property purchased.

The Village of Clearwater will have second right of refusal.

Access to school-owned property - the practice football field and track - had previously been discussed. Sanne said he worked with ESU and other local entities to determine an access point.

"ESU does not want someone to access (the school-owned property) on the north side (of the building)," Sanne said.

He spoke with county commissioners about potential access from the northwest side of the football field and track.

In addition to county property bordering the practice field and track, John Mlnarik and Virginia Filsinger own property.

Sanne said after discussions with the three landowners, access would be granted if development of the property comes to fruition.

An engineering study would need to be completed.

Additionally, the purchase agreement includes kitchen items, including a stove, convection stove, prep table, griddle, freezer, stove ventilation system, dishwasher and portable salad bar; playground equipment; storage shed; washer, dryer and refrigerator in the family consumer science room and a key card entry system and software.

During his administrative report, Sanne said he anticipates the district will have an auction to sell items that will not make the move to the new building.

He will make a recommendation about which auction firm the district will work with in the future.
