Bobcats win thrilling road contest in overtime

The Bobcats won a close game, Jan. 5, against the Plainview Pirates, 61-57.

Offensively, Dalton Rotherham lead the team in scoring with 16 points and Mason Hoke and Jaykwon Petite helped carry the scoring load by adding 12 points each.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats were able to take a 17-12 lead. Plainview dug in the second quarter and cut the Bobcats lead down to just two points at the half.

A close third quarter had the Bobcats and the Pirates changing the lead several times but the Bobcats were able to hold on and take a 38-36-point lead into the fourth quarter.

In an intense eight minutes of basketball, the Bobcats gave up a costly foul, giving Plainview a three-point lead with a few seconds left in the game.

But, the Bobcats got the ball to Jaykwon Petite, who scored a bucket and drew a foul. Petite made a free throw to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Bobcats outscored Plainview 6-2 in the overtime period and secured their third win of the season.

Coach Jacob Birch said he thought the team played good defense in a solid win.
