Bobcat power • Members of the 2020-2021 girls' basketball team include (front row, l-r): Kelsey Schlecht, Adyson Mlnarik, Aislynn Kester, Ellie Dougherty; (middle row, l-r): Maryssa Long, Avery Cheatum, Brenna Wagner, Kyra Nilson; (back row, l-r): Harper Klabenes, Lena Bolling, Emma Kerkman, Natalie Stallbaum, Hadley Cheatum, Emily Nordby, Cassidy Bearinger, Olga Mendoza, Emma Hoffman and not pictured: Emily Ahlers, Emma Funk and Danielle Schrunk.

While quarantine and isolation may have hampered pre-season practice, the Lady Bobcats haven't lost focus, according to Coach Greg Appleby.

"Yesterday (Monday) was the first day with our full 20-member team. That means that some players are playing catch-up with learning our system," he said.

One seasoned veteran, Brenna Wagner, returns to the squad, along with Avery Cheatum, who Appleby called a "key contributor last year before an injury derailed her season.

Letter winners Maryssa Long and Hadley Cheatum will also see playing time.

Appleby anticipates CWC and North Central as favorites in conference play.

"Every game will be important for us as we are inexperienced in starting roles. Our focus right now is on opening night with Neligh-Oakdale."

Games will have a different look, due to health measures.

Appleby said not having a large crowd will be similar to summer ball and AAU Select basketball.

The team tips off Thursday, at 6:15 p.m., in Clearwater.
