November 26, 2020

The Honorable Donna Taylor resentenced a Ewing man, whose probation was revoked after he admitted violating its terms, last Wednesday in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh.

Shawn N. Stenka, 37, was sentenced to serve 30 days in the Antelope County Jail, with credit for two days previously served. Taylor revoked his driver’s license for one year, giving him credit for 365 days suspension.

Stenka was placed on a 12-month term of probation Nov. 20, 2019, for a conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol. He admitted violations, including testing positive for alcohol on several occasions and failure to provide proof of attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, as ordered.

He was represented by Antelope County public defender Melissa Figueroa.

Darwin J. Bartos, 43, of Creighton faced Taylor for further arraignment on charges including Count I, driving while license revoked from DUI, a Class 4 felony; and Count II, failure to yield right of way, an infraction.

Pursuant to a plea agreement with Antelope County prosecutor Joe Abler, Bartos pleaded guilty to a reduced Count I, driving under suspension, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and Count II, as charged.

Bartos was fined $100 and $25, respectively, and assessed $50 costs of prosecution

Bartos was arrested by Nebraska State Patrol troopers after a crash southwest of Tilden on Aug. 7.

He was represented by Brad Montag of Norfolk.

Alexander B. Widler, 23, of Norfolk appeared before Taylor for pretrial hearing on two counts, Count I, driving under suspension, a Class 3 misdemeanor; and Count II, no proof of financial responsibility, a Class 2 misdemeanor.

Pursuant to a plea agreement, Widler changed his plea to guilty on Count I, in return for Abler dismissing Count II. Abler also agreed to file no additional charges in the case and recommend a fine at sentencing.

Taylor fined him $100 and assessed $50 costs of prosecution for the offense committed April 19 near Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh.

Widler was represented by Montag.

Jennifer M. Hines, 42, of Neligh faced Taylor for sentencing on a conviction of a Neligh city nuisance violation. Hines was fined $50 and assessed $50 costs.

Nathaniel D. Buck, 20, of Neligh pleaded guilty, by waiver, to two counts, minor in possession of alcohol, ages 19/20, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and possession of an open alcohol container, an infraction. Buck was fined $300 and $50, respectively, and assessed $49 costs for the Oct. 10 offense.

Conner N. Lucas, 18, of Creighton pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a Class 3 misdemeanor count of minor in possession of alcohol. Lucas was fined $300 and $49 costs for the Oct. 17 offense.
