Rodeo draws competitors from seven states

Lance Daniel, of Eagle, took home extra cash from Clearwater's Big Rodeo, following a successful ride on the bounty bull sponsored by Bearinger Tax & Accounting, LLC.

The bounty bull bucked off the riders in the next two performances.

This year, 276 contestants from South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas and Nebraska competed for $30,000 in prize money.

Koby Jacobson, of Hershey, scored 75 to take top honors in bull riding. Brett McAbee finished second, with 72, followed by Austin Wickett, 71; Dillon Micheel, 70 and Daniel, 69.

Nick Schwedhelm, of Ft. Calhoun, took top honors in barebacks. He scored 78.

Tanner Ruppercht scored 75, finishing second, followed by Tanner Phillips, 74 and Whitten Hoover, 72.

Springview's Sage Miller won the saddle bronc competition.

Dru Melvin, of Hebron, wrestled down a steer in 3.9 seconds to win steer wrestling. Taylor Davis finished second, with a time of 4.2.

Others placing in the event were Kyle Whitaker, 4.5; Hoyt Kraeger, 4.7; Gabe Taylor, 4.7; Bump Kraeger, 4.9; Weston Winkers, 4.9 and Tom Littell, 4.9.

Terry Graff, of Long Pine, won the 45 and over tie-down roping division. Graff finished in 10.3.

Mark Lovitt ended second, in 12.4; Charlie Kenney, third, 15.3; Carl Fordyce, fourth, 15.8 and Arden Garwood, fifth, 15.8.

Bartlett native Lane Day took top honors in tie-down roping, winning in 8.5. Austin Hurlburt was second, with a 9.1 mark.

Finishing in the money were Miles Garwood, 9.3; Riley Wakefield, 9.5; Terry Graff, 10.3 and Matt Kenney, 10.3.

Katie Mundorf, of Mullen, ran 2.2 to win ladies breakaway roping, edging Mabie McAbee, who finished in 2.4 seconds.

Also placing were Brandy Schaack, 2.5; Emily Knust, 2.6; Bailey Brown, 2.6; Danielle Wray, 2.8 and Brittni McCully, 2.8.

Dori Hollenbeck, of Winner, South Dakota, nudged the line in 15.47 to claim the barrel racing crown. Korrina Hughes finished second, in 15.7.

Carla Jensen finished third, in 15.86, followed by Jessica Leach, 15.86; D'Ann Gehlsen, 15.91 and Mary Dugan, 15.95.

Team roping honors went to Monte Snider of Dodge City, Kansas, and Corby Chytka, of Ericson and Jhett Trenary and Bret Trenary of Stepheville, Texas. Both teams finished in six seconds.

Third place went to Mitch Barney and Troy Hermelbracht, 6.2; Clay Bauer and Monte Hurlburt, 6.7; Jason Schnoor and Heath Barlow, 7.3 and Spencer Jobman and Hunter Walker, 7.8.
