Ready, set, celebrate!

Orchard Community Days begins Friday

 


A weekend of family-friendly fun is on tap, July 24 through 26, in Orchard.

Orchard’s annual community celebration begins Friday, with a drive-through chicken dinner planned at the Rex. Orchard Historical Society will host the meal, which begins at 11 a.m., and continues until 1 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday, Sugarz will serve Indian tacos, walking tacos and nachos, opening at 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

At 5 p.m., Friday, duck races will be held at the Orchard pool.

Plan to head downtown for an evening meal, sponsored by two Summerland Bobcat groups.

The youth football program will offer a walk-up sloppy joe meal, from 5 to 8 p.m. Serving will occur next to the Bank of Orchard.

Summerland’s volleyball team will serve brownie sundaes on Main Street, from 5 to 9 p.m.

Register for the road rally downtown, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and return to take a cruise down Main, from 7 to 9 p.m. KBRX will play cruising tunes.

Stop by The Den for beverages and entertainment, as Dave Merkel plays Friday evening.

Saturday activities feature kids’ games, sponsored by the orchard fire department. Activities will be held at the ballfield, beginning at 10 a.m.

Sugarz will open at 8 a.m., and The Den will open its doors at noon.

orchard fire department will sponsor a poker run. Check-in begins at noon. Participants are scheduled to leave Orchard at 1 p.m.

The route includes stops in Ewing, Clearwater, Neligh, Royal and Orchard.

A $10 entry fee is required.

The sixth annual Orchard Young Men’s Club co-ed cornhole tournament will accept registrations, at 2:30 p.m., under the tent.

Registration runs $30 and cash prizes will be awarded for the top three spots.

Fire department personnel will serve wings from 4 to 8 p.m.

Sunday morning events include a pancake feed, sponsored by the orchard fire department. Serving begins at 9 a.m., at the fire hall.

A community church service is planned for 10 a.m., at the Orchard Park.

Sugarz will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with regular menu items available.

The Den will open at noon.

Registration for a parade around Orchard will begin at 12:30 p.m., at the fire hall. The parade will begin at 2 p.m.
