My thoughts on TikTok

After the pandemic started, I was sent home from college. With no classes to attend or any of my school friends to see, I had to find something to fill up all of this new amount of time.

I, like many people my age, turned to TikTok. For the longest time, I put off using and even downloading the app for no real reason.

Out of complete boredom, I downloaded it just to see what was so amazing about the app. I quickly understood what it was.

I realized that TikTok is very similar to when Vine was around. If you remember Vine, creators made six-second videos, but on TikTok they range between 15 to 60 seconds.

The thing that stands out the most to me about TikTok is that there is something for everyone.

Looking for comedy? There are tons of videos for that.

Want a new workout to do? You can find multiple different ones on the platform. Dancing, cooking, singing, skits, animals; they're all on there.

Personally, I like to watch videos about comedy, art, animals and dance. They're a good way to kill some time or to just be entertained.

Another thing I love about TikTok is that you can share videos you like with your friends. My friend and I constantly send our favorite videos to each other throughout the day.

The app also has a way of finding videos I like and continuing to show me ones that are similar.

I make TikTok videos about whatever art project I'm making at the time; and I've been able to connect with other artists.

It has also made me want to start selling some of my work to some of my followers and to make this into a business, like many other creators on TikTok.

One thing that some people don't realize about TikTok, is that it can be used for businesses as well.

A lot of companies or businesses use the app to connect with the their audiences to spread their products in a more creative way.

This is especially benficial for smaller brands. By using specific hashtags, they can spread information to wider audience than they could on different platforms.

TikTok has also inspired multiple young users to create videos and make names for themselves.

The table below shows some of the top users are under the age of 20.

At 16 years old, Charli D'Amelio makes about $25,000 a video and has a net worth of about $4 million. All because of TikTok.

Creators like these have been able to use this platform to basically jump start their careers before they've even begun.

I have kept TikTok and still use it almost everyday mainly because it's almost like an escape from the real world.

There's a lot going on in the world and not much of it is very good. So, TikTok offers a fun space where I can forget about all of that for just a little bit.

I can meet new people who share the same interests that I do and make new connections that I don't usually, especially with the pandemic still happening.

I'm also able to find inspiration for new projects after seeing other creators' work. I actually picked up an art style after watching another artist's video.

If you're bored and looking for something to do, I suggest trying TikTok. You never know what you could find or who you could meet.
