Classes suspended
Clearwater, Ewing, Orchard schools out of session until end of March

Ewing Public Schools, as well as the three districts comprising Nebraska Unified District #1 - Clearwater, Orchard and Verdigre, will not be in session, amid concerns of the COVID-19 virus.
Classes were canceled, beginning March 17.

Ewing Principal Greg Appleby said EPS will be closed until March 30.
"At this time classes will resume on March 31," Appleby said.
Future decisions about school closure will be communicated through media channels, Facebook and the school's JMC message system.
Appleby said, "We have made this difficult decision after consulting with health department officials this morning, as well as area schools in the Educational Service Unit 8."
School cafeteria personnel planned to offer sack lunches for students during the two week shutdown.
Nebraska Unified schools
Clearwater and Orchard Superintendent Dale Martin released a similar statement Monday afternoon, noting North Central District Health Department officials had shared information with area superintendents in the ESU 8 region.
"Their recommendation is that we close down for a minimum of two weeks as an ESU 8 region,” Martin said.
Clearwater, Orchard and Verdigre schools closed March 17 and will remain shuttered through March 30.
Martin said, “We will reevaluate the situation at that time.”
All local school events and activities will also be suspended or canceled during this time. Martin said school officials will meet to discuss plans for optional student enrichment activities, as well as the possibility of providing student lunches, for those interested during the closure.

Activities
All Nebraska School Activity Association activity practices have been suspended until March 30. NSAA activity competitions have been suspended until Thursday, April 2.
According to a statement on the NSAA website, the suspensions may be extended if conditions warrant.
