What do you think of when you hear 4-H? Do you think of showing animals, the fair, crafts and that 4-H is for just farm kids? Well, think again.
4-H is more than just showing animals or making crafts to bring to fair. It is about lifelong friendships, spending time with family, learning new skills and becoming the best person possible. 4-H is a youth development organization for kids, ages 5 to18 years old, as of Jan. 1.
There are more than 150 different projects 4-H has to offer, so there is a project out there for everyone’s interests and hobbies. Some of the popular projects 4-H has to offer are: shooting ports, sewing, baking, woodworking, welding, home environment, photography, child development, animal science and crops, just to name a few. Whatever the youth’s passion or hobby is, there is a 4-H project for them. Pursuing their interests, hobbies or trying something new in a safe environment can lead youth to a future career. Participating in 4-H projects and activities, youth can build the skills necessary to succeed in that career.
Along with projects, 4-H has camps, activities, contests and many other opportunities for all ages to learn and grow from. 4-H has traditional outdoor camps geared for younger kids, but also offers science, computer, veterinary science and other career development camps geared toward high school students.
4-H is more than an activity for youth. 4-H can be a shared experience for the whole family. Parents, siblings, and relatives can have fun, discover, care and grow along with their 4-H youth through 4-H projects and activities.
By making 4-H a family affair, thousands of families enjoy the quality time it gives them. Adult volunteers can lead clubs, share their expertise in a particular project area, help at workshops or the fair and serve on teams with other volunteers.
