February 20, 2020

The Honorable Kale Burdick presided over Holt County court last Tuesday, Feb. 11, handing down four sentences.

Conrad A Lurz, 29, of Ellington, Missouri, formerly of O’Neill, faced Burdick for sentencing on two counts, second-degree false imprisonment, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and disturbing the peace, a Class 3 misdemeanor. He was sentenced to concurrent sentences of 30 days and five days in the county jail, respectively, and $60 costs of prosecution. Lurz was given credit for 10 days previously served for the May 4, 2019, offenses.

Lurz changed his not guilty pleas to guilty per terms of a plea bargain reached in a Holt County district court case. In return, Holt County attorney Brent Kelly dismissed a Class 1 misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic assault. Lurz was represented by Holt County public defender Rod Smith of O’Neill.

Breanna J. Storjohann, 20, of O’Neill appeared for sentencing on two counts committed Sept. 6, 2019. She was sentenced to a one-year probation term on a Class 1 misdemeanor count, third-degree assault, and a Class 3 misdemeanor count, reckless driving. She was also assessed $240 in probation fees and $60 costs of prosecution. The probation order includes a potential 45-day jail sentence if not waived, and an order to enroll in the Nebraska Department of Labor’s youth employment and training program, if eligible.

Storjohann pleaded guilty to the two amended counts as part of a plea agreement. Kelly reduced Count I from a felony count of tampering with witness/informant/juror, reduced Count II from a felony count of terroristic threats, and dismissed a Class 3 misdemeanor count of willful reckless driving. She was represented by Smith.

Jessica A. Turpin, 41, of Ainsworth appeared for sentencing on an Oct. 4, 2019, offense, false reporting, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Turpin changed her plea to guilty per terms of a plea agreement entered Dec. 3, 2019. Burdick sentenced her to a six-month term of probation, including a $30 probation enrollment fee, and $60 costs. Monthly probation fees of $150 were waived. Turpin was represented by Smith.

Pedro F. Ajin, 20, of Norfolk, formerly of O’Neill, appeared without counsel for arraignment on three counts committed Dec. 30, 2019, Count I, no valid registration, a Class 3 misdemeanor; Count II, no proof of financial responsibility, a Class 2 misdemeanor; and Count III, careless driving, an infraction. He pleaded guilty to counts I and II, pursuant to a plea agreement with Kelly. In return Kelly dismissed Count III. Burdick sentenced him to fines of $25 and $100, respectively, and costs of $50.
