Bobcats down Boyd County in consolation game

Consolation winners • The Summerland Lady Bobcats defeated Boyd County, 44-41, to earn the third-place trophy at the Niobrara Valley Conference girls' basketball tournament. Summerland survived a late rally by Boyd County to earn a hard-fought 44-41 win Saturday in the conference consolation matchup in Atkinson.

Ashley Koenig led the Bobcats with 16 points and cemented her name in basketball history as she reached the 1,000 point career mark.

Summerland took control in the first quarter, leading 10-1 at the break and maintained a 21-10 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Cats extended the lead to 30-20, but could never pull away from the Spartans.
