Team members include (front row, l-r): Savanna Ferris, Wyatt Shabram, Larissa Thomson, Jacob Behnk; (back row, l-r): Jeff Shabram, Riley Fisher, Andrew Pearson, Trevor Thomson, Gaven Gilsdorf and Gunnar Shabram.

Nine lifters from the OC powerlifting team traveled to Lexington, Saturday, Dec. 7, for the Lexington powerlifting Championships, competing one last time as the OC Cyclones.

It was a large meet, with 130 lifters comprising a lineup of stiff competition from around the state, according to Coach Jeff Shabram.

"The OC lifters had a tough day ahead of them competing as the smallest school, but were up for the challenge. We can be very proud of the way our students competed and conducted themselves in representing our school and communities," Shabram said.

The Clearwater-Orchard co-ed team finished third.

Other top five teams included Lexington, first place; Columbus, second; Columbus Scotus, fourth and Columbus Lakeview, fifth.

Lexington High School also won the boys' and girls' divisions of the meet.

OC claimed one gold medalist. Larissa Thomson won the girl's 123-pound class. Her total of 620 pounds lifted, at a body weight of 122 pounds, earned Thomson the overall female lifter of the meet award, based on strength index, which is weight lifted divided by body weight.

Other medal winners included Wyatt Shabram, third place, 114-class; Jacob Behnk, third place, 220 class; Trevor Thomson, fourth, 165 pound division and Riley Fisher, fourth, 275-pound class.

Other boys competing were Andrew Pearson, sixth place, 198-pound class; Gunnar Shabram, seventh place, 181-pound class and Gaven Gilsdorf, 10th place, 165-pound class.

In the girls' division, Savanna Ferris finished seventh in the 148-pound class)

All nine lifters competed hard and set numerous personal bests, according to Shabram.

The next powerlifting meet currently on the schedule for the new Summerland powerlifting team will be the Peru State powerlifting meet, Jan. 11.
