Thiele, Wickersham gain experience at state cross country meet

Final turn • Eli Thiele navigates a turn as he enters the final 800 meters at state cross country.

The cross country season ended for two Summerland runners, Oct. 25, at the NSAA State Cross Country Championships, at Kearney Country Club.

Kaci Wickersham ended 27th in Class D girls' competition. The junior maintained a pace of 6:57, completing the course in 21:33.6.

Alayna Vargas of Hastings St. Cecilia led the pack of 146 runners, finishing first, in 19:15.6.

Eli Thiele ran the course in 18:32.4, ending 51st in the Class D boys race, featuring 152 competitors. Thiele maintained a pace of 5:59

Payton Davis, of Aquinas Catholic, won, running 16:54.
