Orchard collision leads to arrests

A 27-year-old Creighton man was arrested on a felony charge after a Sept. 29 one-vehicle accident in Orchard.
The Antelope County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene, near 4th and Harrison streets, where a 2006 Silverado, registered to Travis Suhr of Creighton, had hit a tree at approximately 5:30 a.m. The reporting party told authorities two people had fled on foot.
An investigation, by Deputy John Shaver, led to Suhr’s residence, where Jesse J. White was located with minor injuries allegedly sustained in the accident. He denied need for medical treatment and was placed under arrest.
Jessica L. Hassett, 38, with a last known address of Madison, a passenger in the pickup, was arrested on an allegation of aiding the consummation of a felony. She also denied need for treatment of injuries.
A second alleged passenger, Dylan W. Sickels, also 27, was not located, but was reported by White and Hassett to be safe, according to probable cause affidavits filed in Antelope County Court.
White faced the Honorable Donna Taylor in the Neligh courtroom last Wednesday on a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident. He requested court-appointed counsel and asked that his $3,000, 10% cash bond to be amended to personal recognizance. Taylor appointed Patrick Carney, public defender and set a preliminary hearing for Oct. 16. She denied the change in bond after Antelope County Attorney objected. Taylor told him if she had known he was charged with a felony, bond would have been higher. If convicted of the Class 3A felony, White faces up to a $10,000 fine and/or up to three years’ incarceration. He was remanded to the custody of Antelope County Sheriff Bob Moore.
Hassett also appeared in county court Wednesday, charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor count of false reporting. Taylor appointed attorney Jeff Doerr of Neligh to represent her. Hassett requested bond be amended to personal recognizance. Abler objected, citing a pending Thurston County warrant on an allegation she absconded from probation. A bench warrant was signed in Thurston County Court Oct. 3. Taylor denied bond amendment and continued the case to Oct. 16. If convicted, Hassett faces up to a $1,000 fine and/or one year in jail. She was remanded to Moore’s custody.
