Ewing elementary start date pushed back

Air quality concerns addressed

August 8, 2019

Ewing elementary students will get a few extra days of vacation.

The start date, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 14, has been bumped to Monday, Aug. 19.

A school alert was sent Monday, Aug. 12, at 11:44 a.m.

According to Ewing Principal Greg Appleby, late spring and early summer rains caused considerable damage to the elementary gym.

"The delay allows time for summer work and cleanup to be completed and to insure the damp areas of the facility are air quality safe and stabilized," Appleby said in the message. "Please know our goal is to insure a safe environment and safety for all students.

Classes on the Aug. 19 will be in session for a full day, with the first bell ringing at 8:05 a.m. Classes will be dismissed at 3:15 p.m.

The elementary gym floor was replaced in April 2018.
