Encore • Hairball performs on Ewing's Main Street during the 2022 Funfest celebration. The band brings 80s favorites, like Van Halen, KISS, Queen, Journey and Aerosmith to life. They will return to Ewing, Saturday, May 27, for the Funfest concert.

It's time to "Rock in Ewing, U.S.A.," this weekend, as Ewing Young Members Club presents the 2023 Ewing Funfest.

Events begin Friday, May 26, with a scavenger hunt, scheduled to run from 6 to 8 p.m. The registration fee is $20 and will take place at DW's Pub.

The event is sponsored by the "Summerland Advocate-Messenger." SAM Publisher Scott Schindler said there is one new requirement for this year's event.

"All teams must check back in by 8 p.m.," he said.

Two events will take place at Summerland Golf Course. Hole-in-one qualifying will tee off at 5 and continue until 9 p.m. At 9:30, get ready for the glow in the dark shootout.

Evening festivities conclude with Good Time Karaoke on site at DW's Pub. Join in the fun and give your best Bob Seger impersonation from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, bring the kids to Schmidt Park for the free inflatables. Bounce in the park from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Summerland Bobcat football team will sponsor a cornhole tournament, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The Ewing United Methodist-Presbyterian Church will host a barbeque from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Music will begin at 7 p.m., on Main Street, with the Jessy Karr Band. The four-member multi-genre band hails from the Tri-City region of Nebraska.

At 9 p.m., get ready to rock Main Street as Hairball takes center stage. Prepare for a spectacular show featuring plenty of lights, smoke, fire and the sounds of the 80s hair bands.

Tickets for the concert are still available at area vendors for $20 or at the gate for $25.

Begin Sunday with breakfast at the fire hall. Ewing Fire & Rescue will be flipping flapjacks and serving sausage, eggs and other sides for a freewill donation.

A community church service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Ewing Full Gospel Church.

A parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. Registration will be held at the football field.

The Hall of Fame presentation will take place by city hall, following the parade.

Then, head to Summerland Golf Course for an afternoon filled with activities. The kids won't want to miss the ping pong ball drop, scheduled for 3 p.m. Collect the balls being dropped from an airplane and turn them in to the Ewing Young Members for quick cash.

A calcutta will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by the $20,000 putt for dough competition, sponsored by the EYMC.

The final event of the weekend features the $250,000 hole-in-one shootout, sponsored by KBRX and EYMC.
