Bobcats finish fourth in conference duals clash

Conference call • The Bobcat wrestling team finished fourth in the Niobrara Valley Conference duals meet, Jan. 24, at Neligh-Oakdale. Summerland wrestlers finished 1-3 in duals competition and earned the fourth-place trophy in the Niobrara Valley Conference meet held at Neligh-Oakdale.

Summerland defeated Elgin Public/Pope John, 47-21, in the first match.

In a 126-pound match, Ethan Kester won by tech fall 15-0, over Grady Drueke. Jesse Thiele pinned Isaac Hemenway in :59 in a 132-pound match. Connor Thomson, wrestling at 138 pounds, pinned Jack Barlow in 3:13.

Landyn Veik won a 9-4 decision over Logan Kester.


The Bobcats won forfeits in four weight classes: Willis Mast, 152; AJ Hobbs, 160; Keaton Thiele, 170 and Kendrick Schroeder, 182.

EPPJ won three matches by forfeit, including Austin Hinkle, 113; Samuel Hemenway, 195 and David Durre, 220.

In the second dual, N-O handled the Bobcats, 66-12.

Three Bobcats competed and all lost by fall. Carson Whitesel pinned Caden Mendoza in :20 in a 126-pound match. Corbin Hoefer defeated Shayne Jenkins in 3:35. They wrestled in a 138-pound match. Kegan Payne earned a win in over Logan Kester, in 1:51, in the 145-pound class.

Summerland earned wins, by forfeit, in two classes: Alex Thiele, 120 and Jesse Thiele, 132.

The Warriors earned wins by forfeit in eight divisions, including Andrew Henery, 106; Dylan Furstenau, 113; Dane Schmoldt, 152; Levi Drueke, 170; Aiden Kuester, 182; Jacob Henery, 195; Chase Thomas, 220 and Hayden Wilkinson, 285.

Elkhorn Valley claimed every match in the third dual, en route to a 78-0 win.

Owen Vondra pinned Mendoza, in :35, in a 120-pound class match. Isaac Eckert pinned Thomson, in 2:54, in a 132-pound match. Jenkins lost by fall, in 1:32, to Nathan Halsey in a 145-pound tilt.

Logan Kester, wrestling in the 145-pound division, fell to Mason Schaffer, in 2:51. Tristan Smith defeated Matt Umphress in 1:50 in a 160-pound clash and Trevis Halsey down Schroeder in 4:29 in a 170-pound faceoff.

EV earned wins, by forfeit, in seven weight classes including Daley Bearinger, 113; Mason Nitz, 126; Mavrick Hagemann, 152; Nathan Werner, 182; Jaxon Halsey, 195; Paxton Cleveland, 220 and Leevi Frey, 285.

In the final dual, North Central escaped the Bobcats, 45-36.

Ethan Kester, 126, pinned Jaxon Cozad in 1:09, while in a 132-pound match, Jesse Thiele pinned Atwood Albrecht in :10.

Jenkins lost, by fall, in :45, to Gavin Prewitt, in a 145-pound match. Umphress, wrestling in a 160-pound match, earned a win, by fall, in 2:18, over Chase Kaczor

Keaton Thiele pinned Elijah Clay, in :57 in a 170-pound match and Schroeder pinned Chase Gewecke in 1:55 in a 182-pound contest.

Logan Kester earned a win, by forfeit, in the 138-pound class.

North Central earned wins, due to forfeits, in six divisions, including Branson Anderson, 152; Beau Kaufman, 195; Beau Wiebelhaus, 220; Kip Leonard, 285; Wyatt Fowler, 106 and Zachary Wiebelhaus, 113.

The Bobcats travel to Wakefield this Saturday for the Wakefield Invite.
