Summerland struck first in its Class D1 state football playoff game against Bridgeport and never looked back.

The Bobcats held off what could have resulted in a late charge by the Bulldogs to secure a 28-14 win, Thursday, at home.

Against Bridgeport, Jaykwon Petite completed 50% of his passes for 94 yards. Michael Koenig finished three for three, for four yards.

Kendrick Schroeder led the Bobcat rushing attack, running 113 yards on 17 carries. Trevor Thomson added 83 yards on the ground.

Thomson led the receivers, too, nabbing five passes for 52 yards. Alec Schindler, who caught the opening pass, for a touchdown, pulled in three catches for 50 yards.

Schindler dominated on defense, earning 19 tackles, included 10 solo takedowns.

Keaton Thiele added 17 tackles; Thomson, 15 and Schroeder, 10.

The Bulldogs edged the Bobcats in total yardage, 355 to 331, but Summerland out-tackled Bridgeport, 61-45.

Bridgeport turned the ball over six times, including multiple hiccups inside the 10-yard line.

The Bulldogs end the season at 6-3. This was the team's first year in the eight-man division.

The victory sets up a rematch of the Bobcat's week zero game against Riverside. Kickoff for Friday's contest, in Cedar Rapids, is slated for 6 p.m.
