Cheatum, Ahlers qualify for girls' state track meet

Competition begins May 20 at Omaha's Burke Stadium

Two Lady Bobcats will represent Summerland in four events in the 2022 Nebraska State Activities Association Class C Track and Field Championships.

Bailey Ahlers and Hadley Cheatum qualified for the state's best of the best, Thursday, at the Class C5 district track meet, in Atkinson.

The Lady Cats finished seventh in team standings, scoring 42 points. Battle Creek claimed the team title with 104 points.

Ahlers, a freshman, cleared 5' 1" in the long jump, a personal record. The jump placed her fourth overall. At state, she will jump Saturday, May 21, at 11:30 a.m.

Cheatum, a junior, won four district medals and advanced to the state meet in three events. She won gold in the 300 hurdles, running 48.35. She brought home a second gold medal in the 800m, crossing the finish line at 2:26.57. In the 400m, Cheatum struck gold a third time, running 1:00.02.


Cheatum earned a bronze medal in the 100 hurdles, running 15.77.

At state, she will compete in the 400m prelim on Friday, May 20. The race will begin at 4 p.m. The 300 hurdles preliminary is set for Friday at 5:40 p.m.

Cheatum will compete in the 800m finale, Saturday, with a 1:30 p.m. start. Finals in the 400m and 300h will run Saturday, at 3:50 and 4:50, respectively.

Summerland's 4x800 relay team, comprised of Carlee Livingston, Adyson Mlnarik, Ellie Dougherty and Aislynn Kester earned a fifth-place medal. The team finished in 12:29.86.

Fifteen personal or season records were set by the Lady Bobcats on Thursday. Other Bobcat competitors included:
