A traffic stop in Neligh,Sunday afternoon, took a wrong turn, resulting in two individuals requiring medical attention.

The Nebraska State Patrol Special Investigations Team reported that at approximately 12:35 p.m., on May 8, Antelope County Law Enforcement Center dispatchers received a report of a road rage incident occurring on Highway 275.

The exact location of where the incident occurred has not been disclosed.

Both vehicles involved stopped at a convenience store in Neligh. A store employee called 911, reporting a disturbance in the parking lot.

Neligh police chief Michael Wright responded, locating one of the involved vehicles. The officer performed a traffic stop at the entrance of a business on Highway 275, near V Street. He made contact with the driver, identified as 38-year-old Josie Auld, of Norfolk.

According to the NSP, preliminary investigations show Auld attempted to drive away from Wright, causing the vehicle to drag the officer along the road.

Wright discharged a duty weapon, striking the driver, before falling from the vehicle.

Auld continued driving west, until a citizen witnessing the events forced Auld's vehicle off the road, where it came to rest.

Neligh Rescue transported Wright and Auld to Antelope Memorial Hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

"Ms. Auld was later transported to University of Nebraska Medical Center for further treatment of her injuries," Antelope County Attorney Joe Abler confirmed Monday evening.

Initially, Highway 275 was shut down between Baker Road and the Royal Road. At approximately 2:15 p.m., NSP investigators expanded the road closure from the Highway 14 junction to the Highway 45B spur, at Ewing. The highway reopened at approximately 8:10 p.m.

Antelope County Sheriff, Neligh Police Department and the NSP Special Investigations Team were called to investigate. Neligh Fire Department also responded to the call.

On Tuesday, Abler said the incident is still being investigated by the NSP.
