Bobcat speech team members have found success early this season, including two public speakers who have made their way to the top of the medalist stand.

At the Jan. 15 Practice Makes Perfekt meet, at Wisner-Pilger, junior Faith King won informative speaking. Julie Olivan and Alanna Doll placed fourth in duet acting.

On Jan. 22, the Bobcats hosted the Summerland Speech Invitational and finished in fourth place, with 150 points. Stuart scored 330 points to win the team title, edging runner- up West Holt, who finished with 328.

Elgin Pope John placed third with 176 points and Creighton rounded out the top five, with 96 points.

Adrienne Parker topped the field in persuasive speaking. King added another medal to her collection with a third-place finish in informative speaking.

Two Bobcats received medals in serious prose. Olga Mendoza placed fifth and Natalie Stallbaum, sixth. Olivan broke entertainment finals and placed fourth.

Two duet acting teams qualified for the final round. Olivan and Doll finished second, while Mendoza and Austin Muff placed fifth.

Three novice speakers received medals.

Yazlin Zermeno brought home the silver medal in humorous prose.

Carlee Livingston finished fifth in informative speaking.

Zermeno and Livingston teamed with Doll for a second- place finish in oral interpretation of drama.

The Bobcats are idle this weekend and will return to speaking action, Feb. 5, at the West Holt Invite. The first round is slated to begin at 8 a.m.

Other meets in February include Burwell, Feb. 11; Wausa, Feb. 12 and Creighton, Feb. 18.

A speech showcase is planned Monday, Feb. 21, at the school.
