Four novice Summerland speakers traveled to Stuart, Saturday, for Stuart's inaugural novice speech meet. Schools in attendance were Pope John, Stuart, Summerland and West Holt.

Coach Julie Harley said the event helped the young competitors learn what to expect as they enter the world of competitive speech.

No medals were awarded and team sweepstakes points were not recorded, but the results are as follows: Julie Olivan and Alanna Doll, first, duet acting; Carlee Jo Livingston, fourth, public speaking; and Matt Umphress, fifth, humorous prose.
