A transformation has begun on the empty building at the intersection of Main and Nebraska streets, in Clearwater.

The future home of the Clearwater Historical Society's museum features a new roof, a security door on the back and several new windows.

Inside, plaster walls and lathe have been removed and a new pour of concrete evens the floor.

"It's a beginning," said society secretary LuAnn Schindler. "But we still have a long way to go."

Additional windows on the front of the building are on order. Soffit needs to be installed. A heating system will need to be purchased.

The refurbishing efforts - led by Carla Jacob, Linda Hankla, Kathy Patras, Benita Buetler, Deb Bolling and Schindler - have taken place as funds are donated.

"There's still work to do and we will need additional funding to get the building functional," Schindler said.

The historical society will participate in Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Originating in 2012, Giving Tuesday encourages and celebrates "people to do good," according to the nonprofit's website. Giving Tuesday promotes people "to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity."

The historical society has relied on volunteer labor. Several individuals and businesses have provided generous donations.

"We appreciate all the help we have received to date. Area residents interested in making a tax-deductible donation may do so," Schindler said. "We are excited to complete the project and share our passion for the history of Clearwater."

Donations may be dropped off at Schindler's office, at the Summerland Advocate-Messenger, or at Cornerstone Bank.
