Bearinger medals in frist junior high XC meet

Run into the history books • Summerland junior high cross country members take off from the start line, Thursday, at the Battle Creek Invite. Irelyn Bearinger earned a medal in the girls' race, finishing ninth in the team's inaugural meeting.

Thirteen junior high runners made history, Thursday, as the first members of the junior Bobcats cross country team to compete in a meet.

Seven girls and six boys competed in races at the Battle Creek Invite.

In the junior girls' division, Irelyn Bearinger brought home the ninth-place medal. She finished in 15:28.

Shaylie Kester, Brecklyn Bergman and Ava Cleveland finished 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively. Kester ran 15:36, Bergman, 15:52 and Cleveland, 16:37. Jadyn Hobbs placed 22nd, running 21:07. Ethan Kester finished 16th in the junior high boys' division., running 13:16.

Others competing included Austin Mendoza, 20th, 14:01; Tucker McLain, 25th, 14:40; Bennet Flenniken, 26th, 14:40.5; Caden Mendoza, 31st, 15:07 and Tucker McLain, 16:52. Aubrey Parker was the lone Bobcat runner in the high school girls' race. She finished 21st in a field of 42 runners. Parker finished in 25:14.


Jesse Thiele ran 20:51.5 in the boys' high school race. He placed 30th. Alex Thiele completed the course in 21:34, finishing 38th.

The team will compete in Niobrara Valley Conference action, Friday, in Atkinson. Races begin at 4 p.m.
