Ewing celebration kicks off Friday

 


One year after Ewing turned 150 years old, village residents are ready to welcome visitors to the 150th plus one celebration. Events begin Friday, May 28, with a road rally scheduled to run from 5 to 7 p.m. Registration fee is $20 and will take place at DW’s Pub.

Cruise around town from 7 to 8:30 p.m., as tunes set the mood for drive time.

At 8:30 p.m., Andre Right will perform a Christian concert at Full Gospel Church.

A full slate of activities begin at 9 a.m., Saturday and continue throughout the day and evening.

A historical display will be available from 9 a.m. to noon at the Spittler Building.

Donuts will be served at city hall from 9 a.m. to noon.

The grand parade will begin at 12:30 p.m., and the hall of fame presentation will follow the parade downtown.


The Summerland Bobcat football team will sponsor a cornhole tournament, at 2 p.m.

Stop by the United Methodist/ Presbyterian Church for a dessert social between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Quilts will also be on display at the church.

Youngsters and the young at heart won’t want to miss events taking place in Schmidt Park from 2 to 6 p.m.

Inflatables, an escape house and virtual reality trailer will be available. Food vendors will line the park, offering a variety of cuisine.

At 2 p.m., members of Sanders American Legion Post 214 will host bingo in the park. Eight games will be played.

Hole-in-one qualifying runs from 2 to 9 p.m., at Summerland Golf Course.

Alumni festivities begin at 6 p.m., at the high school gymnasium.

At 9:30 p.m., a glow-in-thedark shootout will begin at the golf course.

Sunday events begin with a fireman’s breakfast, served by Ewing Fire and Rescue Department personnel, from 8 a.m. to noon at the fire hall.

The historical display in the Spittler Building will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The 10th and final Bubby’s Race will begin at 9 a.m., at the football field. A $15 entry fee is required for runners and walkers.

Community church services will be held in Schmidt Park, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Model airplanes will be displayed at Summerland Golf Course from noon to 2 p.m.

Youngsters won’t want to miss the ping pong ball drop, at 2:30, at the Summerland golf course.

Beginning at 3 p.m., a calcutta will begin at the Summerland course. The $10,000 putt for dough contest and hole-in-one

shootout will follow.

The events are sponsored by the Ewing Young Members Club and KBRX.

Feast on barbecues and all the fixings, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., at the United Methodist/Presbyterian Church.

At 8 p.m., Hi-Fi Hangover kicks off Sunday evening entertainment. Little Texas will take center stage, on Main Street, at 9.

Tickets for the concert are still available at local vendors and at ewingsummerfunfest.com for $20.

No refunds will be given. Coolers are not allowed in the concert area and identification

will be required.

At midnight, a raffle drawing will be held for a Ewing 150th Henry Golden Boy .22 LR gun.
