-Isms: Views on life in rural America

The best laid plans don’t always work out.

Last week, the graduation section kept me busy, but a great column was brewing and I began penning it Wednesday. I added a bit more over the next few days.

It was a doozy. Trust me.

And then, Monday happened.

My Mac desktop decided not to cooperate, even after attempting to install the new operating system.

Five completed pages of the paper were lost. This is one of the pages currently inaccessible until Apple Support and I work through the issue.

I’ve lost enough pages due to computer glitches over the years. I’m quick to hit command-S (control-s for non-Apple users). And, I usually drag files onto my external drive daily. But for some reason (Um, I’m busy? I forgot?), the file did not make it onto my trusty Western Digital drive.

C’set la vie.

Except ... our daughter, Melanie, and her family are home from Arizona and this grandma wants to snuggle with the three-year-old grandson, maybe go for a tractor ride.

Business, first, today though. The paper will be finished on time, despite the curve ball.

The column I was planning will wait until next.

And life, and it’s wacky sense of humor, will continue.
