Out my kitchen window

October 8, 2020

There’s a rustle as I walk through the flower garden. It’s autumn and leaves are scattered on the ground.

Moving indoors and looking out the kitchen window, the color in the flower garden has changed as the weather slowly creeps into cooler days and nights.

It’s the kind of weather that makes a person want to cuddle up in a favorite sweatshirt and stoke a fire in the backyard fire pit.

I’ve resisted the urge for the wood in the fire pit due to the extreme dry conditions and low dew point in the area.

I will wait until “the white stuff” swirls and covers the ground. Then I might light a few logs and sit for a bit on the back patio and dream of spring and the pop of color in the yard.

Wait, I need to slow down my garden dreaming and enjoy that sound of dry leaves as they are scattered about the ground.

It’s time to plant some spring blooming bulbs. Not too early, not too late. I have a couple bags of tulip bulbs to plant. They will never be enough as I also would like some daffodils and a cute little plant, grape hyacinth. So far, I’ve just accumulated tulip bulbs. There is still time to buy bulbs.

I can talk smart about planting, but it’s my hubby who does most of the work. I did gift him with a new tool to help. I ordered a bulb auger to attach to a drill. The auger is three inches across so I hope that makes the process easier.

Then, when winter fades, we should have pops of color that fill the backyard. We will be able to look out the kitchen window on those cool spring mornings and enjoy the view of our fall work.

Each season in the garden brings new dreams, new plans and a reason to get out and move about. The easiest part is to stand and look out the kitchen window and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

Enjoy fall outdoors and from your kitchen window. It’s a good season to dream.
