Taylor presides over Antelope County court

Korban A. Palmer, 24, of Meadow Grove appeared in the Antelope County courtroom for sentencing last Wednesday, April 1, on a Class W misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Honorable Donna Taylor sentenced Palmer to an eight-month term of probation, including fees of $280, a $500 fine, revoked his drivers’ license for 60 days and assessed him $307 costs for the Dec. 7, 2019, offense committed in Oakdale. He was credited $10 paid for a court-ordered alcohol evaluation.

Palmer, a self-litigant, pleaded guilty when he was arraigned in county court in January.

Dennis C. Statler, 50, of Neligh faced Taylor on a Class 1 misdemeanor charge of third-degree domestic assault alleged March 31. Taylor found probable cause for Statler’s detention, set further arraignment for April 15 and set bond at $10,000, 10% cash, with a condition of no contact, direct or indirect, with the alleged victim. The judge further ordered bond be amended to personal recognizance if space became available at a Veterans’ Administration facility. He was remanded to the custody of the Antelope County sheriff.

A Meadow Grove man withdrew his previous not guilty plea to a Neligh city ordinance violation.

Roger G. Wynn signed a written guilty plea March 30, waiving his right to a trial on a misdemeanor charge of violating the city’s junk/weed nuisance ordinance in September 2019. The document was filed by Neligh city attorney James McNally. Wynn was fined $100 and $49 costs.

Melanie A. Sheldon, 35, of Neligh pleaded guilty by waiver to a Neligh city ordinance, dog running at large, and was fined $15 and $49 costs.

Tara A. Hough, 40, of Bellwood, pleaded guilty by waiver to an infraction count of possessing an open alcohol container March 8. She was fined $50 and $49 costs.

John J. Shald, 73, of Stuart failed to appear March 23 on two counts alleged Feb. 28, Count I, no proof of insurance, a Class 2 misdemeanor, and Count 2, no valid registration, a Class 3 misdemeanor. Taylor ruled the county attorney may file motion for an arrest warrant.
