Thiele, Grebin prepare for consolation matches

Rafe Grebin battles Samuel Foster, Sutherland, in the opening round in the Class D 126-pound division. Grebin lost, by fall, and moves to the consolation bracket.

The opening round of the 2020 NSAA State Wrestling Championships is in the books for Summerland competitors.

Rafe Grebin and Colton Thiele will wrestle in the consolation bracket on Friday, beginning at 12:30, at CHI Health Center Omaha.

Grebin lost his first match in the 126-pound division to Samuel Foster, of Sutherland, who pinned Grebin in 3:15.

Grebin is set to meet Josh Spatz of East Butler in the first consolation round.

Colton Thiele dominates his opening round match against Sid Miller, of Anselmo-Merna. Thiele advanced to the quarterfinals, where he lost, by fall, and is poised to move through the consolation bracket of the 195-pound class.

If Grebin is successful, he will meet Lane Barton, Meridian, in the second consolation round. The two met in the district match for third, last Saturday, in Plainview.


Colton Thiele opened the meet with a win, by fall, over Sid Miller of Anselmo-Merna. In the quarterfinal, Thiele lost, by fall, in :25, to Carl Mundt, of Nebraska Christian.

Mundt, a junior, entered the state tournament with a 45-1 record.

Thiele will face the winner of a consolation match between Jake Sellman, Hemingford, and Tyler Wolfe, Sandhills Valley.

Third-round consolation matches are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., if either wrestler advances.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, consolation semifinals are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with matches for third and fifth place to follow.

Finals will begin at 2 p.m. The parade of champions and finals will be shown live on NET and online.
