Number of measles cases increases in the US

Measles cases have seen an uptick in the U.S., according to the North Central District Health Department.

North Central District Health Department recently released a community update on the rise in measles cases in the U.S.

Be aware that measles cases are on the rise in the United States, and while Nebraska has not seen this yet. NCDHD staff said, "Now is the time to make sure you and your family are up to date on your vaccinations.

The State of Nebraska has issued a statement encouraging prioritization of vaccinations to safeguard communities. MMR, the vaccine that covers measles, is given at 12 to 15 months and at four to six years. It is safe and is 97% effective after two doses, according to state health officials.

Individuals who plan to travel, should talk to their providers or NCDHD staff about options for children who are too young to be vaccinated.

Individuals who are not sure about their vaccination history or who do not know if they have had measles, should contact their providers or NCDHD staff to see what options are available.

Contact a local clinic, hospital, pharmacy or NCDHD to see where vaccinations are available.
